in the middle ages, there were rules about what you could or couldnt eat. until the start of the 13th century, adults were forbidden to eat annnny ’four-footed flesh meat’…. the trouble is, people is smart. they got around it, they cheated. we’re talkin about food here guys, some people do take it seriously. people like me if they couldnt eat ‘four-footed flesh’ then they eat large birds! HAH!
when it came to dessert, only the rich people could afford the sweet dishes. the rich people ate all the sugar they could get their teeth on, until the sugar rotted their teeth. one flavor that was popular then but rare now is the flavor of roses.

Rose Pudding
you need:
• the petals from a fully opened roses (make sure it’s well-washed, any bugs youve failed to wash off from the petals will be turned into serious hospital cases)
• 4 tablespoons of cornflour
• 275ml milk
• 50 caster sugar
• 3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
• 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
• 575ml single cream
• pinch of salt
• 10 dates (stoned and chopped small)
• 1 tablespoon pine-nut kernels (if possible)
method:
- boil the rose petals in water for two minutes
- press the petals between kitchen towels under heavy weight
- put the cornflour in a saucepan and slowly add milk, stirrin all the time
- put the pan on to heat and warm until the mixture starts to thicken
- pour the mixture into a blender, add sugar, cinnamon, ginger and rose petals
- blend until smooth (or until the bugs have a headache)
- blend in cream and salt then return the mixture to the saucepan
- heat and stir until the mixture is like thick cream
- stir in dates and pine-nut kernels and heat for further two minutes
- pour into glasses and leave to cool (stirring to stop a skin from forming)
- eat this straight from the fridge and amaze your mum and dad… psssst, just dun tell them that you plucked a prized rose from your mum’s garden though
